Looking back at the first half of our 90th anniversary year

As Roschier celebrates its 90th anniversary, we are taking the opportunity to look back at our history while continuing to build for the future. Throughout the year, we have reflected on the people, ideas, and milestones that have shaped the firm over the past nine decades.

The anniversary theme, Built by Many, has been reflected in different ways throughout the year. We launched the R90 anniversary page, which brings together stories, milestones, and videos from Roschier’s history, and our annual Roschier Circle events once again brought together former colleagues to reconnect with familiar faces and celebrate the relationships that continue to be part of the firm’s story.

The first half of 2026 has also included new appointments, expanded legal capabilities, industry recognition, collaborations, and events across Finland, Sweden, and international forums.

Awards and recognition

Roschier received broad recognition across international legal directories, industry awards, and client surveys during the first half of 2026.

• At the IFLR Europe Awards, Roschier was named National Firm of the Year in Sweden. Matters on which the firm advised also received Deal of the Year awards in the Private Equity and Restructuring categories.
• Roschier was named Nordic Firm of the Year at the Managing IP EMEA Awards. The firm also received two European Cross-Border Patent Litigation Team of the Year awards for its work on the Takeda and Astellas matters.
• In the Kantar Prospera Tier 1 Law Firm Review, clients rated Roschier the leading Tier 1 law firm in Finland for overall performance in both the All Tier 1 and Tier 1A categories, marking its 12th consecutive year in which Roschier held the leading position.
• The Legal 500 EMEA 2026 ranked Roschier as Top Tier in 17 practice areas across Finland and Sweden and recommended the firm in a further nine. Roschier received 74 rankings in total, including 26 firm rankings and 48 individual rankings.
• Chambers Europe 2026 recognized Roschier with 25 practice rankings, including 14 Band 1 rankings. In addition, 65 Roschier lawyers received individual rankings, with 15 ranked in Band 1 or higher.
• The WTR 1000 also recognized Roschier’s trademark expertise in Finland and Sweden. In Finland, the firm was ranked in the Gold tier for both Litigation and Prosecution and was recommended for Transactions, alongside several individual rankings.

Promotions and appointments

Developing people and strengthening expertise remained a central focus during the first half of the year.

On June 1, Roschier announced 13 senior practitioner appointments across several practices in Finland and Sweden. Tilda Rosengren and Emelie Zellmer also began their new roles as Partners.

Earlier in the year, Jon Pettersson joined Roschier as Counsel in the Finance & Restructuring team in Sweden. His experience includes senior legal roles in the Nordic financial sector and a particular focus on complex loan financing matters and banking regulation.

New practices and legal advances

Roschier continued to develop its services in response to changing markets, regulation, and client needs.

A dedicated Data Centers practice, headed by Lisa Hybbinette in Stockholm and Antti-Jussi Partanen in Helsinki, was established to bring together specialists in real estate, M&A, financing, construction, energy, regulatory, and technology matters. The practice responds to growing investment and increasing complexity in the Nordic and European data center market.

“The data center sector is evolving rapidly, driven by AI, energy infrastructure, and digitalization. It is important for us to stay close to the discussions and developments shaping the sector,” Lisa says.

“The Nordics are becoming one of Europe’s leading data center regions, supported by renewable energy, favorable development conditions, and growing demand from AI workloads. Our expertise across all relevant practice areas allows us to support clients in some of the sector’s largest and most complex assignments,” Antti-Jussi adds.

Roschier also established a dedicated Financial Regulatory practice, headed by Björn Hård af Segerstad. Based in Stockholm and working closely with colleagues across the firm, the practice focuses on transactions, major projects, and disputes involving financial service providers and other regulated businesses.

The Swedish Supreme Court’s decision to acquit former Swedbank CEO Birgitte Bonnesen was another significant legal development during the period. The ruling addressed the protection available under Sweden’s constitutional freedom of communication in relation to statements made during media interviews. It also clarified the distinction between spontaneous interview responses and planned corporate communications.

Initiatives and responsibility

In June, Roschier published its Sustainability Report for 2025–2026. The report covers progress across client and strategic impact, people and culture, environmental responsibility, and community engagement. Developments included expanded health and wellbeing initiatives, generative AI training, broader carbon emissions reporting, and the achievement of the firm’s annual pro bono target for the seventh consecutive year.

Roschier’s House of Many Voices initiative also continued to create space for dialogue across business, society, culture, and public life. The 2026 program began in Stockholm with conversations on geopolitics, healthcare, technology, competitiveness, and urban development.

The initiative was also brought to Cannes alongside MIPIM, where leaders from the real estate and investment community discussed geopolitical uncertainty, changing market conditions, and the importance of long-term collaboration.

Collaborations

Several collaborations during the first half of the year focused on entrepreneurship, social impact, and Finland’s future competitiveness.

Through its collaboration with SILTA, Roschier supported the Female Fellows Project, which brought seven female founders and prospective founders from Finland to San Francisco for a three-week program. During the program, three new companies were founded.

Roschier also began a new pro bono partnership with Min Stora Dag through Roschier Impact. The firm will provide legal support in areas including governance, compliance, and data protection to help strengthen the organization’s long-term work supporting children and young people living with serious illnesses.

The Forward Finland Forward series, organized in collaboration with the University of Helsinki and Miltton, concluded with a discussion on the conditions needed to turn ideas into successful companies and support long-term economic growth. The event brought together founders, investors, business leaders, students, and policymakers.

Events and shared dialogue

Roschier’s 90th anniversary was reflected in several events during the first half of the year.

House of Many Voices Helsinki moved outdoors for the first time, transforming Kasarmitori into a festival venue under the theme Built by Many. The theme celebrated collaboration, different perspectives, and the people who have contributed to Roschier’s journey over nine decades.

More than 1,000 guests attended the Helsinki event, where conversations focused on what builds strong cities, careers, organizations, and communities. Speakers addressed themes including trust, creativity, belonging, leadership, and the value of learning from others.

At Almedalen Week in Gotland, Roschier once again opened the House of Many Voices stage to its pro bono partners. The program covered children’s rights, education, health, crime prevention, social innovation, and partnerships, with discussions emphasizing early intervention and long-term collaboration across sectors.

The 16th Roschier Disputes Forum focused on competition litigation and enforcement. Legal practitioners, in-house counsel, academics, and industry experts discussed recent case law, European litigation trends, and the practical challenges involved in competition damages claims.
