For 90 years, we have been privileged to work alongside clients when it matters most. From complex deals to strategic counsel in changing markets, our success has always been built on enduring trust, shared ambition and a commitment to excellence. As we start our anniversary year, we are deeply grateful to our clients, partners and people who have shaped our journey and made it possible.
Roschier was founded in Helsinki in 1936 by Åke Roschier-Holmberg, who acquired the legal practice originally established by Agnes Lundell after her passing, purchasing it from her estate. Building on the foundations she had laid, Åke developed the firm into a leading business law practice.
From the outset, the firm’s work was characterized by close client relationships and strong values, reflecting a deep commitment to professional ethics and societal responsibility. Arne Waselius joined as a partner in the late 1940s, and together they led the firm for around three decades, establishing Roschier’s reputation in the Finnish legal market.
During the 1970s and beyond, Roschier expanded its team and capabilities, responding to clients’ evolving needs and the increasingly international nature of business. By the 1990s, the firm had grown substantially, including establishing offices in London and Vaasa as part of its development in new markets.
In 2004, Roschier formed a strategic alliance with leading Baltic law firms, marking a significant step into regional collaboration. Building on that momentum, in 2005 Roschier became the first Finnish law firm to open an office in Stockholm, led at the time by Axel Calissendorff, further strengthening the firm’s Nordic presence and client service.
Over the 2010s and into the 2020s, Roschier has solidified its position as one of the leading Nordic law firms, consistently ranked top tier for its international business law expertise. With offices in Helsinki and Stockholm, the firm continues to serve both domestic and international clients on demanding assignments and cross-border matters.
We will celebrate our 90th anniversary in many ways throughout the year with our clients, partners, and people, recognizing not only our shared history but also the work we will do together next. Our clients are at the heart of everything we do: many of our most valued relationships span decades and reflect mutual trust, collaboration and shared success. We thank you for that trust and look forward to continuing to develop and innovate together.
Being able to give back has always been an integral part of who we are. Roschier’s culture emphasizes responsible business and social contribution, from pro bono legal services to supporting organizations focused on children, young people, innovation and community wellbeing. Through these efforts, we strive to use our expertise to make a positive impact beyond client work, and we are proud of the role we play in giving back to society.
This is a significant milestone, but it is also a beginning. As we look toward the next decade and beyond, the legal and business environment is once again being reshaped, from rapid advances in AI to a complex geopolitical landscape. We have navigated many such periods before. Across different eras of transformation, uncertainty and renewal, the firm has remained stable while continuing to evolve.
