We are supporting this year’s Nordic legal history conference, which brings researchers and legal historians from across the Nordic countries to Helsinki in May 2026 to discuss the shared development of Nordic legal systems and legal culture.

The seventh Nordiska rättshistorikermötet, the Nordic legal history conference, will be held in Helsinki on May 21–22, 2026. The conference brings together scholars from across the Nordic countries to discuss the history and development of law, legal institutions, and legal culture in the region. This year’s program includes topics ranging from constitutional and administrative law to transnational legal history and the relationship between law and literature. The conference also reflects the long tradition of Nordic legal cooperation and the close connections between the legal systems of the Nordic countries.

Roschier supports the conference as part of the firm’s broader commitment to legal scholarship and the Nordic legal community. The event also has a particular connection to the firm, as the second day of the program will begin at Roschier’s office in Helsinki. The firm’s own 90-year history is closely linked to the development of the Finnish legal profession through Agnes Lundell, the first woman in Finland to qualify as a lawyer, who founded the predecessor of Roschier in 1911.

“At Roschier, we believe that understanding the historical development of law also helps us understand its role in society today,” says Johanna Lilja, Partner at Roschier. “Legal history offers important perspectives on institutions, legal culture, and the rule of law. We are pleased to support a conference that brings together leading scholars from across the Nordic region.”

In addition to the academic program, the conference includes visits and social events intended to encourage discussion and exchange between participants from different disciplines and countries.
