Roschier announces the appointment of highly experienced technology and IP strategist Niklas Östman as a Partner in the firm. Niklas rejoins Roschier from Microsoft Corporation in the U.S. He will practice in Roschier's market-leading Intellectual Property team.
Niklas Östman enjoys a very strong reputation in the field of technology and IP transactions and litigation. He has exceptionally broad experience from global IP and technology commercialization projects, gained during a career as Head of Patent Licensing at Nokia Corporation and, most recently, as General Manager of Licensing at Microsoft Corporation in the U.S. Before joining Nokia in 2010, Niklas spent some 10 years at Roschier, first as an Associate and later, in 2009-2010, as a Partner.
He has played a key role in creating and operating two IP and technology monetization programs that rank among the largest in the world. Additionally, Niklas has in-depth knowledge of designing and implementing cloud-based business solutions and operating in digitalized ecosystems.
With as much as an estimated 75 per cent of commercial asset values being encompassed in intellectual property, strategic litigation and transactions together with coherent IP strategies are needed to capture that value and ensure competitiveness in the global market.
"We welcome the broad international experience that Niklas brings to the team," says Mikko Manner, Head of Roschier's TMT and Outsourcing practices. "He is highly networked and has an unparalleled track record in the technology space at a global scale. He adds both breadth and unique in-house perspective to our IP and TMT practices, allowing us to further deepen our relationships with our clients by providing them even more valuable ongoing strategic advice, in addition to global execution capabilities."
"Niklas Östman is the third Partner appointed to Roschier's Intellectual Property practice this year. His appointment complements the recent promotions of Björn Johansson Heigis and Erik Ficks and is further evidence of Roschier's continuing focus on intellectual property and technology to meet the opportunities and challenges facing the firm's clients in today's highly sophisticated IP landscape," says Roschier's Managing partner Rainer Hilli.
After almost six years away, Niklas Östman looks forward to rejoining the firm. "Roschier is regarded as the clear No. 1 firm for complex IP and TMT matters in the Nordics. I have always admired the firm's culture and pioneering, solution-oriented approach, and I am excited to become part of its fantastic team again," Östman says.
